FUZZ SPOTLIGHT: MAEDEG
F: HI MAEDEG! Thanks for doing this. Want to start off with what sparked you to want to make music?’
D: Sure thing!! ☺️ Hellooooo. Growing up I was always surrounded by music, whether it was musical instruments I’d find just laying around in my house or borrowing my dads guitar when I was 12 and from until then on, it was just always always there. I grew up singing in my church choir for I think like two months when I was 8 but after that I just started singing on my own and listening to a whole bunch of indie alternative music like Avril Lavigne, Fiona Apple, Alanis Morisette. When I started listening to these artists I was just stunned and I told my mom that I wanted to be a performer just like them when I grew up. I remember when I was like 7 I was at a buffet with my grandma who was alive at the time and I would take her cain and run up in front of everyone at the restaurant and would just start singing this song called Complicated by Avril Lavigne.. The idea of making music whether it’d help lift another individual’s heart or finding out that someone can just simply relate to my upcoming music makes me feel that God put me on this Earth for a reason, and that is to keep writing and make that music! The ART of a musician & songwriter, to CREATE. To put down what goes on inside my head and let the music actually exist in the world.
"TO PUT DOWN WHAT GOES ON INSIDE MY HEAD AND LET THE MUSIC ACTUALLY EXIST IN THE WORLD."
F: That’s funny cuz....Alannis Morisette was my first concert with my mom heh. Great stuff! Very cool. Ya I totally relate to the idea of having someone connect with something that used to just be in your head. Such a leap of faith to put it out in the universe without knowing how it’ll be received. So, CLEARLY you’ve found your passion; what has been your journey thus far in progressing and finding other musicians to play with?
D: I’ve only done a couple collabs with small artists but I’m building my way up now! I’m currently working on my EP to release for the beginning of next year. Slowly in the process of building my audience as I write and display my art!
F: Awesome, sounds like a pretty good plan so far! How did you come to know the other artists? Are they helping you record your EP?
D: I’ve known some of these artists through mutual friends actually so it’s almost been a small world where I see meeting other musicians as the most exciting opportunity to see other artists and their art at the same time while creating the musical energy! No they aren’t helping, I am currently recording it on my own by seeing a professional producer. I do get feedback to improve the music from friends and other audience who get to hear some bits of the songs
"...A SMALL WORLD WHERE I SEE MEETING OTHER MUSICIANS AS THE MOST EXCITING OPPORTUNITY..."
F: Couldn’t agree more about the joy of sharing the musical energy. If you’re not experiencing that, you’re missing out. Wow, so professional producer, you’re getting that polished sound goin’ early, what’s the plan with the recordings once they’re finished?
D: Definitely. I’m overly excited for when the album is finished and to have all sorts of different kinds of audience listen to it. Once the music is published my plan is to showcase it and get my foot in the door of sharing who I am as a musician and perform small gigs till I get to the top!
F: Alright then! Guess we’ll leave you to it! Thanks for taking the time to chat with us and don’t forget us when you’re at the top, k???!
