F: Let's start with how you got into music. Any early stick out that kinda sparked the inspiration?
C: Really I was just born into a family of musicians and it was always such a comforting thing to listen to or perform music F: That'll do it! haha. What kind of music did your family play? Did it have influence on your current sound? C: They mostly played rock, and it influenced what I listened to which eventually influenced what I make. F: Interesting, so your track "Writers Block" has more of a hip-hop vibe to it. Any artists stick out that made you want to play this style of music? 10:02PM
C: For hip hop in general it was a lot of people. Eminem, chance the rapper, j Cole, Kendrick Lamar, etc. but I try to take inspiration from everything and not just hip hop F: Very cool. And is that you playing the piano? Want to go into the recording a little bit?
C: It is not. That song was released as I was learning piano so it was created completely digitally and wasn’t me actually playing.
F: Cool, so the digital piano player is a friend you collaborate often?
J: No, Its from a solo project I started late last year under the name José Apache, I got the name from a game we used to play in school where we’d make up pornstar names from our middle names and the street we grew up on and i grew up on apache st lol
"This particular one was a sample. I started out mostly using samples then learning how to play them and now I am able to just create my own original melodies."
F: Awesome! Just gotta start somewhere, don’t need to be a proficient from the get-go. So what led you to this app? Were you having trouble finding musicians in person? Did Covid kinda make things difficult? C: Yes and even before then I just had a hard time finding other musicians that were interested in collaborating. F: Right, not an easy connection to make! What are your goals, not just with the app, but with your music in general? Is it just a hobby for you? Are you looking to pursue it full time?
C: I would love for it to become a full time career but as of now it’s a hobby, I spend most of my time with my 1 year old daughter so that doesn’t leave a whole lot of time for much else.
F: Nothing more important than being a dad, love to see it! Any new music on the horizon? Or where can we keep an eye out for your continued journey?
C: I’m working in some stuff but no dates or anything. And you can always see what I’m doing on Instagram or just look out on any streaming service for music.
